Tactical SMG

The Tactical SMG is a compact fully automatic submachine gun available in GTA Online. Added with the San Andreas Mercenaries update, it occupies a close-quarters role and is notable for bringing a dedicated tactical SMG option to the Online weapon roster rather than serving as a Story Mode weapon.

Its identity is defined less by a special firing gimmick than by how it fits into GTA Online’s compact-automatic weapon group. The Tactical SMG is intended for short-range engagements where quick handling and sustained automatic fire matter more than the reach or deliberate aiming profile of a rifle. It therefore sits closer to the drive-by and close-quarters side of the arsenal than to weapons chosen for controlled long-range fire.

The weapon is especially relevant to players who want an automatic firearm that remains practical in confined spaces, during movement, or when fighting at the distances commonly created by vehicles and urban cover. In GTA Online, the Tactical SMG is a fully automatic close-quarters firearm. Its handling is governed by sustained automatic fire rather than a charge, burst-selection, or alternate firing mode: holding the trigger produces a continuous stream of rounds until the magazine is empty or the trigger is released. That makes short controlled bursts useful when accuracy matters, while extended sprays are better reserved for nearby targets. Exact fire-rate, spread, and damage values should be read with the applicable Online weapon-stat context rather than inferred from its compact appearance.

The weapon's practical role is short- to medium-range pressure. At close distance, its automatic output lets it track moving targets and punish exposed opponents quickly. As distance increases, recoil and shot dispersion make long sprays less dependable, so the Tactical SMG benefits from brief bursts and deliberate aim instead of being treated like a rifle. It does not have a weapon-specific charge, projectile guidance, penetration mode, status effect, or special attack documented here; its distinction is its compact automatic handling and SMG ammunition role.

Reloading is magazine-based: once the loaded ammunition is exhausted, the character performs the weapon's normal reload before firing again. Avoid beginning a reload in the middle of an exposed exchange when a target is already within effective close range. The Tactical SMG does not have a documented Mk II firing system or a separate special-ammunition mechanic in this section, so it should not be described as benefiting from Mk II-only ammunition or research-gated weapon effects.
